Hugh Laurie and Lisa Edelstein

This week I am going to talk about my favorite television show, "House M.D." I am focusing more on one of the episodes that recently aired. I could not add the videos to this blog so if you want to watch the videos I am talking about, you can go to the website given at the bottom and watch the clips called Joy and The Kiss. To give you a quick summary, Lisa Edelstein, playing Dr. Cuddy, is not able to have children of her own so she has spent the past three years trying to adopt a child. She finally finds a mother willing to give her child up for adoption to Dr. Cuddy. Throughout the whole episode, it is very visible that she is very happy about the baby, but also a little on edge. House, played by Hugh Laurie, is always telling her she is not ready to be a mom. In the end, the mother decides to keep the baby and Dr. Cuddy is devastated. House goes to Dr. Cuddy's house to talk to her about it and they end up kissing. Cuddy is trying to fill her want of being a mother; to care and love for a child of her own. She believes that her life would be more complete if she was just able to have a child. She had tried for years to have a child of her own, but she has to adopt. She is still excited because she is going to be able to have a child. Even before she has been given the baby, she buys clothes, toys, and many other things needed o talk care of a newborn baby. She was there when the baby was born, and she was there when the mother decided not to give up her baby for adoption. Cuddy is so sad. The one thing she ever wanted, she is not able to have. She does not get the baby so she does not become a mother. Since Cuddy does not get the baby, it seems to her like her still is not complete. She goes home to get better. There, she meets House. House has been the "mean guy", the one that always made her feel bad, useless and like she will not be a good mother. He went there and told her that he actually thought that she would make a great mother and that what happened was horrible. Will House and Cuddy end up together but the bigger question is will Cuddy finally become a mother?

Are Guys Really Like This?

Have you ever heard of the movie called About A Boy? Well, basically it is about a boy and a man with who he becomes friends with. The character I am going to be talking about is the man; his name is Will Lightman. I have provided a link at the end that is a trailer for the movie.
Will is very lazy, he does not have a job, and he makes up storied to make his life seem more interesting. He isn't very nice to women. He pretends he has a child so that women would be more likely to talk to him. These are his main characteristics I want to focus on.

He makes guys look like careless, horrible people. Also, it is portrayed that most of the time, if someone was to attempt to do what Will has been doing, they can get good results. This is not a good thing because men should know that making up stories to talk to women; there are other ways this can be done. Also, whenever you make up a story from the beginning of knowing someone, do you really believe that everything will work out in the end? I believe not.

The way men and women are portrayed in some movies and television shows is really unbelievable. The makers of these movies and television shows really exaggerate the stereotypes of men and women. Since this is seen almost every time the television is on or a movie is playing, it makes it seem like that's how life is for real. And then, some men and women start to act as how people do in the television world. This won't be a good thing!

She Makes Me Wanna Be A Horse

I'm sure pretty most of you have seen the Vitamin Water commercials. Today I'm going to be talking about the one with Carrier Underwood in it. I have given the link at the bottom of this.. If you look at the commercial from an overall view, it seems pretty innocent; Vitamin Water will make you be able to calm the craziest of any animal. When you look deeper into it, the gender of the characters chosen and the smart comments made towards the end actually are enforcing stereotypes and are a little demeaning. There are four guys that are trying their hardest to get control of one mini horse. As you can tell, they do not succeed. Carrie Underwood, a woman, is able to get control of it by "horse whispering". Ouch. A little demeaning to men, right? Men are stereotypically supposed to be strong and be able to out do a woman in anything, so to those who believe this stereotype is true, it'll hurt them. This commercial enforces stereotypes because at the end, one of the guys says "She kinda makes a man wanna be a miniature horse" as he is watching her leave the ranch. The stereotype being guys always are looking and the physical aspects of women. Carrie Underwood is pretty, she only talked to the horse, so the guys would like to horses too.

Want Some Pie?

I really like this picture! What I get from this picture is that the man probably said something to the woman about women in general being good cooks and not good at anything else. Another thing that could of happened was the woman brought a pie to work and the man said basically that women were handy only in the kitchen and she did not like it very much! This picture itself isn't a stereotype but the man is stereotyping women in this picture and he gets punished with a pie thrown at his face. :] This is also showing other people not be say that just because you are this gender, you must be good at doing this activity. For one reason, the outcome may not always be good. Men can do anything a woman can do and a woman can do anything a man can do. You shouldn't stereotype anyone because of their gender!
